Can a Wig Be Reshaped If It Loses Its Original Style?

Wigs are an investment in your confidence and style, so it’s frustrating when your wig starts to lose its original shape. Whether your wig looks flat, frizzy, or uneven after wear, the good news is yes—most wigs can be reshaped when done correctly.

At USTAR, we design premium wigs made to be restyled, refreshed, and worn again and again. In this guide, we’ll explain why wigs lose their style, which wigs can be reshaped, and how to safely restore your wig’s original look without damaging it.

Why Do Wigs Lose Their Original Style?

Over time, wigs can lose their shape due to:

  • Daily wear and friction

  • Heat damage from styling tools

  • Improper washing or drying

  • Product buildup

  • Storage without a wig stand

  • Humidity and weather changes

These factors affect both human hair wigs and synthetic wigs, but the reshaping process differs for each.

Can All Wigs Be Reshaped?

Not all wigs are the same. Here’s what you need to know:

Human Hair Wigs

Yes, human hair wigs can be reshaped multiple times.
They respond just like natural hair and can be:

  • Straightened

  • Curled

  • Blow-dried

  • Layered or trimmed

Most USTAR human hair wigs are heat-safe and perfect for restyling.

Synthetic Wigs

  • Heat-resistant synthetic wigs: Can be reshaped using low heat

  • Regular synthetic wigs: Cannot be reshaped with heat

Always check the wig’s material before restyling.

How to Reshape a Wig Safely (Step-by-Step)

1. Wash the wig first.

Start with a clean base:

  • Use sulfate-free shampoo

  • Rinse with lukewarm water

  • Apply a lightweight conditioner

Let the wig air dry to about 80%.

2. Detangle Gently

Use a wide-tooth comb or wig brush:

  • Start from the ends

  • Work your way up

  • Avoid pulling or tugging

This prevents shedding and breakage.

3. Apply Controlled Heat (Human Hair Wigs)

For USTAR human hair wigs:

  • Use heat tools between 250°F and 350°F.

  • Apply a heat protectant

  • Style in small sections

Lower heat preserves longevity and shine.

4. Restore Curls or Waves

To reshape curls:

  • Use a curling iron or flexi rods

  • Let curls cool completely

  • Lightly separate with fingers

Cooling sets the style for longer wear.

5. Set the Style

Finish by:

  • Lightly misting with holding spray

  • Placing the wig on a wig stand

  • Allowing it to fully set before wearing

Signs Your Wig Needs Reshaping

  • Hair looks flat or lifeless

  • Curls won’t hold

  • Ends appear frizzy

  • Parting no longer looks natural

  • Style doesn’t match product photos

If you notice these signs, a reshape will bring your wig back to life.
