1. The Burn Test (The Gold Standard)

This is the most famous and accurate test in the industry. You only need a single strand of hair and a lighter.

How to do it: Take a few strands of hair (from a discreet area) and carefully hold them to a flame.

  • Real Human Hair: Will catch fire immediately, burn with a white smoke, and smell like burning feathers or barbecue. When you crush the residue between your fingers, it turns into ash.

  • Synthetic Hair: Will melt slowly into a ball rather than burning away. It produces black smoke and smells like burning plastic or chemicals. The residue will be a hard, sticky ball that does not turn to ash.

2. The Bleach Test

This is the ultimate "chemist" test. Genuine human hair is a biological fiber that reacts to chemicals. Synthetic fiber is plastic and cannot be chemically altered in the same way.

How to do it: Apply a professional bleaching agent (developer + powder) to a small section of the hair.

  • Real Human Hair: The hair will lift (lighten) in color. The speed depends on the quality, but it will change color.
